Concrete deck was water damaged and full of cracks which of course made it unsafe. The challenge was to removed without being squashed or coming down with it. The answer to this was to build a custom deck onto the back of the truck, and then use the truck as a platform and break the deck up in sections. Acroprops were used beneath the deck to keep the it supported whilst being broken up to save any damage to the house. In order to get onto the truck platform, a second truck was introduced - see photo's.
On one of the domestic jobs we have just encountered...a small block retaining wall with a 500 x 500 footing, embedded with a re-bar cage of 4 x D16s. This footing continued for 15m up to an old swimming pool that had been decommissioned. Creating a bit of tug of war between 'overspec engineering' and little ol' Dingo. Dingo wins the day!
A thirty degree ramp in the rain with slippery clay coating it and very heavy loads of glug aren't my idea of a fun day, but that is what I had to deal with last week.
I was booked in to do this job that I hadn't been consulted on prior to starting. I understood that it was a basic small basement dig-out - simple enough. Builder had built for me a small ramp to negotiate the difference in heights, but turns out the truck to load was about 3.5m above where I was digging out...and it was no small ramp! To overcome the slippery, steep conditions I used my home-made grip sheets on top of the ramp to give traction. Still scary. Thankfully the builder had added rails to the side of ramp to improve safety.
